A laundry room with standard builder-grade storage and wire shelving was functional but did not use space efficiently and looked worn. The project began with replacing old vinyl flooring with porcelain tile in a black and white pattern, prioritizing the floor because moving a washer and dryer is difficult. After a pause for other home renovations, attention returned to the laundry room. Over six weeks, new beadboard wainscoting was installed, and a plywood counter for the washer and dryer was built and stained a warm dark brown. The design required covering washer and dryer hookups while creating a cohesive, space-optimized layout.
"As far as organizational systems go, standard issue usually works fine - but if you want to really make the most of space, a custom setup is the way to go. With a little bit of time and sweat equity, you can create shelving, drawers, cabinets, and more that actually cater to the way you use your space."
