Waiting Game: World Awaits Trump Decision On Negotiated Framework
A proposed framework would extend the current Iran cease-fire by 60 days, open the Strait of Hormuz, and end the US blockade of Iranian ports. During the 60-day period, Iran’s right to enrich uranium, its broader nuclear program, and possible sanctions relief would be negotiated. As of May 30, no White House statement had followed a Situation Room meeting held the day before. A White House official said Trump would only make a deal that satisfies his conditions, including that Iran can never possess a nuclear weapon. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the US is prepared to resume military action if talks fail, stating US forces and stockpiles are ready and that Trump is patient while seeking a “great deal” to prevent a nuclear weapon.
