India and Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, and Denmark are holding a third India-Nordic top-level summit in Oslo to expand strategic and trade relations. The agenda includes technology and innovation, green transition, renewable energy, trade, climate change, energy security, and geopolitical issues. Russia’s war on Ukraine, US President Donald Trump’s tariffs on global imports, and the US-Israel war on Iran have affected India’s economy and energy security. India has sought broader Western relations in response. The summit follows an India-EU free trade agreement signed months earlier and an India trade and economic partnership agreement with Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland signed about a year earlier. Prime Minister Modi’s attendance marks the first Indian prime minister visit to Norway in 43 years.
