US President Donald Trump’s plans for a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest have been put on ice, with Trump saying he does not want the meeting to be "a waste of time." Russia launched overnight missile and drone strikes on multiple Ukrainian regions, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Kherson and Odesa. Kyiv's mayor Vitali Klitschko urged residents to stay in shelters and said air defenses were trying to repel the attacks. Explosions and fires were reported in southern Kyiv. The strikes further damaged Ukraine's energy grid ahead of winter, leaving thousands without power and some without water. The International Ski Federation barred Russian and Belarusian athletes from the 2026 Winter Olympics.
