
The crash occurred in Qarghayi district of Laghman province on Saturday, according to Taliban government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid. The truck, heavily loaded with displaced families and household belongings, veered off the road at about 5:30am local time near the Surkhakan intersection. Provincial Director of Public Health Aminullah Sharif said the driver fell asleep, causing the vehicle to drop into a ditch. At least 10 children were among the dead, while more than 30 passengers were injured, some critically. Families had been staying temporarily in Kunar province and were traveling to Kabul, with wounded transferred to medical facilities in Nangarhar province. The central government offered formal condolences, and the National Disaster Management Authority announced 730,000 afghanis ($10,000) in emergency assistance. Mujahid said the tragedy happened at the end of Eid al-Adha and prayed for speedy recovery of the injured.
