Thousands of Western nationals enlisted in the Israeli military during the Gaza war that has killed at least 72,061 people. More than 50,000 Israeli service members hold at least one other citizenship, with a majority holding US or European passports, according to data obtained by the NGO Hatzlacha via Israel's Freedom of Information Law. At least 12,135 hold US passports and 6,127 hold French passports. Soldiers with multiple citizenships were counted more than once in the breakdown. Rights groups have labeled military actions as war crimes and are pursuing identification and prosecution of foreign nationals implicated.
