This Is the Best Date to Book Flights for the Lowest Fares-and No, It's Not Tuesday
"Travelers are always on the lookout for easy ways to save money, and a new report reveals there is one particular day of the week that is better for booking flights than others. That day happens to be Fridays, according to new data from Expedia that was shared with Travel + Leisure. That is because the end of the week sees less business and corporate travel, the booking site noted."
"While Friday is the best day to book tickets, Expedia recommended actually flying on Tuesdays to unlock even more savings. In fact, domestic flights cost on average 14 percent less on Tuesdays and up to 8 percent less on Fridays, compared to Sundays. "Business travelers head home earlier in the week these days, so new opportunities are opening up for leisure travelers to save by choosing smarter travel days, like Friday for the best prices or Tuesday for fewer crowds," Melanie Fish, the head of Expedia Group Brands public relations, said in a statement shared with T+L."
Fridays generally offer the best day to book flights because the end of the week has less business and corporate travel. Flying on Tuesdays often yields greater savings, with domestic fares averaging 14 percent cheaper on Tuesdays and up to 8 percent cheaper on Fridays versus Sundays. Lower demand on specific days creates cheaper prices; Feb. 25, March 4, and Nov. 18 are among the least busy travel days while May 22, July 3, and Aug. 29 are among the busiest. February is the least busy month and July is the busiest. Holiday periods and peak travel can override weekday pricing patterns, so booking early for holidays is advised, with September and October historically strong months to secure fares and Thanksgiving fares often cheapest when booked around 60 days before the holiday.
