T20 World Cup: South Africa ease past UAE to maintain 100% record, although captain Markram not entirely happy
"South Africa eased into the Super Eights at the T20 World Cup on the back of a comfortable six-wicket win over the United Arab Emirates this morning. The Proteas had already qualified for the next stage but there was no easing up as Aiden Markram's men maintained their 100% record with a convincing display in Delhi that proved too good for their Associate opponents."
"Corbin Bosch was the pick of the bowlers, though, with three for 12 as the UAE struggled to make much of an impact once the opening partnership of 38 off 27 balls - between Aryansh Sharma and captain Muhammad Waseem - was broken. Alishan Sharafu made a solid 45 but received little support. South Africa's reply was steady rather than spectacular but there was never any danger of them falling short."
"Markram unhappy with South Africa's efforts in the field Markram said: "It was great to see the boys grabbing the opportunity with both hands. The bowling unit was really good in executing plans. Today, with a bit of rain and interesting weather around, it was a bit tacky, probably a little less bounce, it was good to get a run around in these conditions.""
South Africa defeated the United Arab Emirates by six wickets to secure progression to the Super Eights, preserving a perfect group record. The UAE managed 122 for six, with Anrich Nortje taking two for 28 and Corbin Bosch three for 12. Aryansh Sharma and Muhammad Waseem shared an opening 38 before Alishan Sharafu’s 45 failed to spark a larger total. South Africa chased steadily with double-digit contributions from Aiden Markram, Quinton de Kock, Ryan Rickelton and Dewald Brevis, finishing with 6.4 overs to spare. Aiden Markram expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s fielding and urged improvement.
