"Qatar made several previous attempts to send shipments through Hormuz, but eventually the tankers turned around. The country, which produced almost a fifth of global LNG supply last year, hasn't been able to move any LNG out of the Persian Gulf since the conflict began at the end of February."
A liquefied natural gas tanker, Al Kharaitiyat, loaded at Qatar’s Ras Laffan export plant earlier in the month and transited the Strait of Hormuz. Ship-tracking data shows the vessel exited into the Gulf of Oman and lists Pakistan as its next destination. The tanker appears to have used a Tehran-approved northern route that runs close to the Iranian coast. The Strait’s effective closure has reduced global LNG supply, pushed prices higher, and contributed to shortages across Asia. Security threats persist as Iran and the US maintain de facto blockades. Qatar previously attempted shipments through Hormuz but tankers turned around, and no LNG exports left the Persian Gulf since late February. At least two LNG tankers from Abu Dhabi have also crossed since the conflict began.
