Bahrain jails nine defendants for life for cooperating' with Iran's IRGC
Bahrain sentenced nine people to life in prison for alleged hostile and terrorist acts carried out in cooperation with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Two additional defendants received three-year prison terms for alleged collaboration with the IRGC involving terrorist and espionage activities. Prosecutors said some defendants photographed vital and strategic sites in Bahrain for the IRGC, while others facilitated transfers of funds from Iran to Bahrain, including through cryptocurrency transactions, to finance operations. Authorities also alleged recruitment of people inside Bahrain to support plans. The convictions followed an intensified crackdown on individuals accused of ties to Tehran, including arrests beginning in March, further detentions, and citizenship stripping of more than 60 people for alleged support of Iranian attacks and collusion with foreign entities.
