Angelina Jolie visits Rafah border crossing
"The crossing - the only point of entry linking Gaza to a country other than Israel - remains closed, despite repeated Palestinian appeals to reopen it for civilians and humanitarian aid. The 50-year-old actress, a former goodwill ambassador and special envoy for the UN refugee agency, met with Red Crescent workers and truck drivers transporting aid. Jolie said she was "honoured" to speak with humanitarian volunteers at the crossing."
"Jolie, known for blockbuster films such as Mr & Mrs Smith and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, has worked with the UNHCR since 2001 and was appointed special envoy in 2012. Last November, Jolie visited the Ukrainian city of Kherson during a humanitarian trip to frontline areas in southern Ukraine. It marked her second visit to the country since Russia's invasion in February 2022. During her time in Kherson, she was seen playing with children in a region subjected to near-daily Russian drone and missile attacks."
"On her previous trip to Ukraine in April 2022, just weeks after the invasion began, Jolie met displaced families in Lviv, including children receiving treatment for injuries sustained in a missile strike on Kramatorsk railway station earlier that month. "She was very moved by their stories," Lviv governor Maksym Kozytskyy said at the time. "One girl was even able to privately tell Ms Jolie about a dream she'd had.""
