Unknown Worlds' cofounders have filed a lawsuit against Krafton for breaching contract following their dismissal. The lawsuit alleges that Krafton attempted to sabotage the Early Access release of Subnautica 2 to evade a $250 million bonus. The lawsuit claims Krafton ramped up delays to the game's planned release and interfered with business practices to impact payout conditions from a 2021 sale agreement. Founders state they were protected from termination without cause and that operations should remain under their control as long as one cofounder remained employed. Tensions escalated when projections showed potential to meet payout triggers.
Krafton allegedly sabotaged the Early Access release of Subnautica 2 to avoid a $250 million bonus payout, throwing promises out the window and hurting both creators and community.
The lawsuit claims Krafton ramped up efforts to delay Subnautica 2's release and therefore prevent a payout related to the October 2021 sale agreement.
According to the founders, the agreement prohibited Krafton from firing any of them without cause and from interfering in studio operations that affected payout conditions.
The issues began when sales projections for Subnautica 2 showed an ability to meet the sales targets that would trigger the $250 million bonus.
