PS5 Sales Drop Nearly 50% Compared To This Time Last Year, But Has Still Shipped 93.7m Units

"In total, 93.7 million PlayStation 5's have now been shipped, with 1.5m of those being in Q4 of 2025. This means the PS5 is lagging slightly behind the PS4, which at this point in its lifetime had sold 97m units. This also means the PS5 continues to sit as the 8th best-selling console of all time. The Wii is in 7th with 101.63m, and the original PlayStation is 6th at 102.49m. The PS4 is sitting pretty in 5th with 117.2m units."

"Q4 proved to be quite weak for PS5. 1.5m consoles shipped is a massive drop from Q4 2024 where it shipped 2.8m consoles. In total, financial year 2025 saw 16m consoles shipped, compared to financial year 2024's 18.5m. Given that we are firmly into the consoles 6 year of life, that's not at all a shocking drop in sales. However, that Q4 drop from the same time last year is a little surprising."

In fact, the price hike will likely see a small upward bump in the next financials because there's normally a little surge in sales as people rush to grab one while it's still cheaper. PS5 remains the 8th best-selling console of all time, behind Wii and original PlayStation, while PS4 leads at 117.2 million. Q4 2025 shipments were weak, falling from 2.8 million in Q4 2024. For financial year 2025, 16 million consoles shipped versus 18.5 million in 2024. Game sales were roughly flat year over year, and PSN user count grew by about one million to around 125 million, without a PS4-versus-PS5 breakdown.
