"The Game Awards are just a few hours away, but nobody cares because GameStop has already already announced the winners of its Game of the Year show... event... digital marketing campaign? The retailer holds this event every year, but unlike Geoff Keighley's version, it's mostly for laughs. It features some ridiculous categories and even more ridiculous winners, showing that the games industry needs a few laughs, especially given how rough the year has been."
"On the opposite side of things, the retailer has awarded its Game of the Year prize to Halo 3, which came out relatively recently, in 2007. It looks like GameStop wasn't too impressed by Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. However, Sandfall Interactive's game did win the GameStop PlayStation Game of the Year, so it's not all bad. Moving on to some of the more whacky awards, GameStop's Trade Anything Day created quite a buzz as customers traded in anything they could find for store credit."
GameStop held a tongue-in-cheek Game of the Year event with deliberately ridiculous categories and winners. The event highlighted humorous takes on industry moments, including a Worst Game award for Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour and a Game of the Year pick of Halo 3. Sandfall Interactive's Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 won the GameStop PlayStation Game of the Year despite mixed reception. A Trade Anything Day promotion generated attention when a taxidermy bobcat won Trade of the Year. Hades 2 won a lighthearted "I only had time to play two hours" style award.
