EA's Anthem Shutting Down Entirely, Will Be Unplayable Starting Next Year
Briefly

EA has announced that the servers for Anthem will be shut down on January 12, 2026, making the game unplayable as it was designed as an online-only title. Players who purchased Anthem can still download it until the shutdown. Additionally, Anthem will be removed from the EA Play playlist on August 15, 2025. EA confirmed the sunsetting has not resulted in layoffs at BioWare, although the studio has seen a significant decrease in staff. The game's struggle at launch was attributed to targeting two different audiences, according to EA's CEO Andrew Wilson.
"Anthem was designed to be an online-only title so once the servers go offline, the game will no longer be playable," EA said in an update.
"Anthem will also be removed from the EA Play playlist on August 15, 2025, and EA says that the sunsetting of the game has not led to any layoffs at developer BioWare."
EA CEO Andrew Wilson stated that the game's struggle at launch was due to its attempt to appeal to two different audiences.
Despite its middling reception and dwindling player numbers, developer BioWare has kept busy since interest on Anthem died out.
