EA is launching a new crossover event for Battlefield 2042 that features Mass Effect-themed cosmetics, including iconic N7 armor. However, this release comes on the heels of significant layoffs at BioWare, leading to mixed feelings about profiting from a beloved franchise so soon after restructuring. The cynical timing raises questions about corporate ethics and respect for the original creators, especially given the troubled development history of other BioWare projects. The event runs from June 17 to July 1, offering various themed bundles.
Given that EA just gutted the RPG developer with a massive restructuring, I find it gross to see the company trying to profit on people's love of the sci-fi franchise.
It's entirely possible this crossover was in the works long before January, when EA laid off a ton of the foundational talent at BioWare in an effort to be more "agile" and "focused."
