He said the ballroom was under budget, going up in a specific location, and that he had doubled its size. He claimed the project was now ahead of schedule and slightly under budget depending on the finishes used. He said the doubling was based on developments over the prior year and that the larger ballroom would be appropriate for the White House. He initially estimated the cost at $200 million, later saying it had grown to $400 million. Congressional Republicans were also seeking $1 billion for security for the project.
