Dr. Mehmet Oz expressed strong approval that the Senate agreed to reopen the government and refused to negotiate ACA and Medicaid under what he called an extortionary situation. Seven Democrats and one Independent senator joined Republicans to end the shutdown without securing a subsidy extension for millions of Affordable Care Act enrollees. Oz asserted that the average person on Obamacare now pays $50 monthly versus $37 previously, citing higher costs next year. Health policy research estimates expiration of enhanced premium tax credits would more than double subsidized enrollees' average annual premiums from $888 in 2025 to $1,904 in 2026. The Committee for Responsible Budget warned a two-year full extension without offsets would cost about $60 billion, and Republican opposition remains to proposals that roll back large Medicaid savings. Oz said he has ideas developed with the White House but did not detail them on air.
