One demonstrator referenced George Floyd when he told McGuire, There was another instance of someone in our city being killed, being murdered by law enforcement, and I'm ready to be done with it."
"Another protester said, I love my community, I love my city, and I hate what's happening to it with people who, frankly aren't from here, coming in and telling us who should be here. And when it comes down to loving my neighbor, I'm just going to love my neighbor."
Tens of thousands of people gathered in Minneapolis to demand that ICE leave the city following the officer-involved shooting death of 37-year-old Renee Good. The protests began at Powderhorn Park, less than a mile from the site where Good was shot and were organized by the Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee. The march weaved through the central neighborhood, stopped at the Portland Avenue site of the killing, and returned to Powderhorn Park. Demonstrators chanted messages welcoming immigrants and calling for ICE to leave, referenced George Floyd, and expressed love for their community. A State Patrol helicopter monitored the march from the sky, no Minneapolis police were seen at the event, the march remained peaceful, and additional protests were scheduled throughout the weekend.
