"Bay County residents attend a candlelight vigil at Carl Grey Park in Panama City, Fla., Jan. 11, 2026, for individuals and families whose lives have been harmed by immigration enforcement, aka ICE. Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother whom the Trump Administration calls a domestic terrorist, was shot and killed in her car by an ICE officer in Minneapolis on Jan. 7 | Tyler Orsburn/News Herald / USA TODAY NETWORK"
U2 released Days of Ash, a six-track EP, on February 18 to coincide with Ash Wednesday. Days of Ash is described as a response to current events, inspired by people fighting on the frontlines of freedom. The EP opens with "American Obituary," a track dedicated to Renée Nicole Macklin Good, a 37-year-old queer mother of three who was shot and killed by an ICE officer in Minneapolis on January 7, 2026. The band's Instagram post says Good was a peaceful protestor shot at almost point-blank range by ICE and that the administration labeled her a 'domestic terrorist' without withdrawing the description or mounting a proper inquiry. Bono began writing the lyrics the day after Good's death and the song was the last the band completed for the EP.
