Two National Guard members and a suspect were shot near the White House at 17th and H Streets NW, roughly two blocks northwest of the White House. A suspect was also shot, is in custody, and was transported to a hospital with gunshot wounds. Emergency medical responders transported all three victims to hospital. The White House went into lockdown while President Donald Trump was at his West Palm Beach golf course. West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey gave conflicting statements about the Guard members' deaths. President Trump called the suspected shooter an "animal" and requested additional National Guard troops; 500 more were ordered to Washington, D.C.
