Trump offered warm words and positive wishes to Mayor-elect Mamdani following their Oval Office meeting. Earlier threats to cut off the city now appear to be shelved for the moment. Mamdani will retain NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, who has been credited with strong leadership since taking over a year ago. Ivanka Trump is reportedly a good friend of Tisch. Keeping the police commissioner is viewed as a potential sign that Mamdani and President Trump might be able to cooperate. Trump expressed skepticism about some of Mamdani's bolder proposals, such as city-run grocery stores and free bus service.
