President Donald Trump threatened to declare a national emergency and federalize Washington, D.C., after Mayor Muriel Bowser announced the Metropolitan Police Department would no longer cooperate with ICE. Trump claimed that federal deployment of officers and National Guard troops had reduced crime dramatically and warned that without ICE cooperation, crime would return. He vowed to call a national emergency and federalize the capital if necessary and urged residents and businesses not to worry. Bowser rejected federal demands to share information on undocumented residents. Bowser's office had not yet responded.
