"I cannot imagine what good could come from deploying military troops on San Francisco's streets, and I can imagine a lot of harm,"
""TRUMP: San Francisco was a great city 15 years ago," the post from Newsom's account read. "ME: Why, thank you!""
At a White House news conference, President Donald Trump said he is considering recommending deployment of the National Guard to San Francisco, calling the city a "mess" compared with 10–15 years ago. Trump tied the proposal to requests from government officials and noted support in the city. San Francisco officials quickly rejected the idea; Board of Supervisors President Rafael Mandelman said he would be surprised any local official requested troops and warned of potential harm from military presence on city streets. Governor Gavin Newsom and state Sen. Scott Wiener publicly pushed back, with Wiener calling the claim a lie.
