Trump signs spending bill, ending US government shutdown DW 11/13/2025
"So with my signature, the Federal government will now resume normal operations and my administration and our partners in Congress will continue our work to lower the cost of living, restore public safety, grow our economy and make America affordable again,"
"They knew that it would cause pain, and they did it anyway,"
The House of Representatives approved a spending bill after a 43-day shutdown, and President Trump signed the measure into law. The Senate had passed the bill earlier, and the package won 222 votes in the House with six Democrats supporting it and only two Republicans opposing it. The transitional budget funds the federal government through the end of January 2026. The shutdown began October 1 amid a dispute over an enhanced Affordable Care Act tax credit that Democrats sought to extend. The impasse caused unpaid federal workers, stranded travelers, and increased demand at food banks. A December Senate vote is scheduled on the tax credits, while the House speaker made no similar commitment.
