President Donald Trump and Secretary Pete Hegseth arranged deployment of the Louisiana National Guard to New Orleans and other areas statewide. Governor Jeff Landry announced the troops will arrive in time for New Year's Eve and remain through the end of February to assist with cracking down on violence and illegal activity. The Supreme Court recently blocked an effort to deploy National Guard troops to Chicago. Landry emphasized that the National Guard complements local law enforcement, cited prior Louisiana assistance to Washington, D.C., and thanked Trump and Hegseth for fulfilling their commitment. Trump named Landry an envoy to Greenland amid related remarks.
