"In a bizarre, rambling speech where his words would trail off and seemingly contradict one another, Trump performed an exaggerated impression of contenders in a weightlifting contest. Firstly, he pretended to be a cis female athlete who struggled to lift the weight, using over-the-top grunting and groaning to showcase the effort he believed women have to go through to lift something heavy. "Drops the thing, walks off the stage crying. Her mother's crying, her father's crying," he states."
"He then went on to impersonate a trans women in the same weightlifting competition, who he portrayed as lifting the weight with no effort at all. "Guy gets up. He said, 'Have you lifted before?' 'A little bit.' And he walks up, 'bing'," Trump acted. "He could've gone 'ding, ding'." "I think it's 112 pounds - it's crazy," Trump went on to say."
Donald Trump mocked transgender athletes during a speech to House Republican members at the GOP annual retreat on 6 January. His remarks included an exaggerated impression of a cis female weightlifter struggling and a caricature of a trans woman lifting the weight effortlessly. He used over-the-top grunting and quoted lines about a competitor dropping the weight and crying. Trump referenced Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, who was not trans, and suggested inappropriate comparisons. Khelif, born and living as a woman, received significant abuse around the Paris 2024 Olympics and was wrongly labeled a trans woman and a "cheater." Khelif and another athlete complied with IOC eligibility requirements.
