President Donald Trump said he did not want more Somalis moving to the United States and called for Representative Ilhan Omar to be expelled and barred from serving in Congress. He attacked Somali immigrants, claiming they took billions of dollars out of their country and accused Omar of a fraudulent marriage to her brother. Trump interrupted a reporter and called Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey a fool while criticizing Minnesota leaders and calling Governor Tim Walz crooked and incompetent. He said Somali communities have destroyed parts of Minnesota and described the state as a hellhole. The remarks were widely viewed as racist and drew sharp criticism.
