"Speaking to The Wall Street Journal, Dershowitz, who was part of Trump's legal team during his first impeachment trial, said the discussion took place at the White House this week, after he had delivered a draft of his planned book, entitled "Could President Trump Constitutionally Serve a Third Term?" Dershowitz indicated that he was ambiguous on whether Trump could run for a third term. "I said 'it's not clear if a president can become a third-term president and it's not clear if it's permissible,'" he recounted of his conversation with Trump. Dershowitz told The Wall Street Journal that he was doubtful Trump would actually try to test the constitutional limits."
Alan Dershowitz delivered a draft titled "Could President Trump Constitutionally Serve a Third Term?" to Donald Trump at the White House and discussed the topic. The draft and conversation examined whether a president could legally serve a third term despite the 22nd Amendment’s restriction that no person be elected president more than twice. Dershowitz expressed ambiguity about the constitutional permissibility of a third term while also expressing doubt that Trump would attempt to test those limits. The exchange followed Dershowitz’s role on Trump’s legal team during the first impeachment trial and public attention to term limits.
