A senior border official leading Operation Metro Surge attributed the killings of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti to inflammatory anti-ICE protest rhetoric and linked protests to an increase in assaults. The official vowed to maintain ICE presence in Minneapolis until the problem is gone and said larger protests would trigger deployment of more Department of Homeland Security agents. The administration's claim of a 1,000 percent rise in attacks on agents has been debunked, with most alleged incidents minor or dismissed. The official urged opponents of ICE to focus pressure on Congress rather than street protests.
