Beckstrom began service in June 2023 and was described as highly respected and outstanding. A 24-year-old fellow Guardsman, Andrew Wolfe, was also shot and remains critically injured. Beckstrom’s father indicated he did not expect her to recover from severe wounds. The suspect, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, is an Afghan national who entered the United States under the 2021 Operation Allies Welcome refugee program. Both Guardsmen had been deployed to combat violent crime in Washington.
