On Oct. 14 a call took place between special envoy Steve Witkoff and Russian foreign-policy adviser Yuri Ushakov about Ukraine-Russia peace negotiations. Witkoff recommended that Russian leaders call President Donald Trump soon and begin by congratulating him on the achievement, expressing support, and calling him a man of peace. He advised framing remarks to show respect and to emphasize Russia's desire for a peace deal. Witkoff suggested modeling a settlement on a 20-point Trump-style peace proposal, citing a similar Gaza plan, and said he had told the President he believed Russia wanted a peace deal.
