The Trump administration won't last forever. What happens after its gone? - LGBTQ Nation
"Donald Trump isn't going to be president forever, much as he would like to declare himself immortal. At some point, his unpopularity will catch up with him. It may be in the next midterms, as Democrats are increasingly dreaming about recapturing both houses of Congress. It could be in the run-up to the 2028 election, when Trump will have to contend with his lame duck status, even if he tries to run again as an 82-year-old."
"The country has never seen this much destruction of its institutions in modern times. Normally, when the government switches hands between parties, it's a question of rolling back policies. But nothing is normal with Trump. In less than a year, he and his hacks have devastated the government, firing thousands of nonpartisan federal workers, politicizing science beyond all recognition, and forcing world-renowned experts to leave the government because they were deemed insufficiently loyal to Trump."
Donald Trump's unpopularity may eventually end his presidency, possibly in upcoming midterms or the 2028 election, leaving him a potential lame-duck candidate. His administration has rapidly dismantled institutional norms by firing thousands of nonpartisan federal workers, politicizing scientific agencies, and forcing world-renowned experts out for perceived disloyalty. The Department of Justice has been converted into a vehicle for retribution, its abuses mitigated mainly by incompetence among subordinates. Internationally, American leadership credibility has been eroded, associated with whim, egotism, and xenophobia. Immigration enforcement has become aggressive, with ICE detaining visa-seeking immigrants even inside courthouses. Future Democratic leadership will confront deeply weakened institutions.
