Dr. Christina Propst, a pediatrician from Houston, was fired after posting an inflammatory comment about voters in flood-stricken Kerr County. Her remark, made prior to the confirmation of casualties, sparked outrage after flash floods claimed at least 119 lives, including children. The clinic where she worked stated her comments did not align with their values. Propst later issued an apology acknowledging the pain her words caused and expressed her belief that politics should not influence medical judgment. She emphasized the importance of human life and the need for collective healing and responsibility after the tragedy.
I take full responsibility for a social media comment I made before we knew that so many precious lives were lost to the terrible tragedy in central Texas.
Politics and party affiliation should never affect the judgment or actions of any medical provider and have never affected mine.
Perhaps my biggest regret is that my words are now serving as a distraction from our shared responsibility to heal the pain and suffering of those whose lives have been forever changed by unspeakable loss.
The well-being of children is sacred. Human life is sacred.
