"I will look to work with a president that I may disagree with substantially,"
"And right at this moment, coming in now as governor elect, and governor in the new year, my approach will be to make sure that I'm pushing for what we need here on the ground. And right now, that will be pushing back against a variety of the bad policies that are coming out of this White House."
Abigail Spanberger secured the Virginia governorship, becoming the state's first woman governor after defeating Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears. National Democrats backed the campaign to strengthen prospects ahead of the 2026 midterms. Spanberger brings a background in the CIA and three terms in the U.S. House after running in 2018. She is recognized as a pragmatic centrist who campaigned on rising cost of living and economic uncertainty. Spanberger pledged advocacy for federal workers and federal contractors affected by DOGE cutbacks, layoffs, tariffs and shutdowns. She said she will work with a president she may disagree with while actively opposing harmful White House policies.
