Bree Fram, a retired Space Force colonel and the highest-ranking out transgender person promoted to colonel in the U.S. military, is running for Congress in Virginia as a Democrat. She was forced into retirement after Trump reinstated a ban on transgender military service. Following Trump's State of the Union address, Fram issued a statement accusing the president of failing to address household pressures and offering empty promises. She criticized his focus on spectacle over substance, arguing his economic policies benefit the wealthy while harming working families. Fram contended that Americans deserve leaders who will fight for everyday people rather than pursue tax cuts for the wealthy and military adventurism.
