SoCal raid: Immigration agents climb onto roof, chase construction workers
"They were just scared actually - just in fear for their lives. They didn't know what was happening,"
"We just gathered and I prayed for all of them, and I prayed for their protection and that God would give us peace during this troubled time,"
"They're using brutal violence against an unarmed, civilian population to impose their political will,"
"Things are escalating and so for us, we know we have to continue our work, we have to continue organizing, we have to continue defending our community."
Multiple U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations occurred across Southern California, from East Los Angeles to downtown, including Montebello. Surveillance video from Montebello showed an unmarked truck arrive, agents surrounding a home and an agent climbing onto a roof while construction workers fled across rooftops; no one was detained in that footage. Contractors and workers described fear and anxiety, with some hesitant to return to jobs. Civil-rights groups reported at least 20 operations and shared videos from Little Tokyo, Commerce and Pico Rivera showing agents detaining people. Community organizers condemned the tactics and raised concerns about mask use by agents.
