Sarah McBride demands Trump administration release severely disabled Delaware resident from ICE custody
""The detainment and now the order to deport Victor Acurio Suárez is morally bankrupt."
""It shows a complete lack of care, compassion, and basic humanity toward a vulnerable neighbor who has done everything the law asked of him and poses no threat to anyone."
""He has no criminal history and followed the law by applying for asylum upon arriving in our country."
""He is the exact kind of individual that our asylum system is meant to protect."
Victor Acurio Suárez is a Sussex County resident who lives with significant developmental disabilities and aphasia and depends on family for daily care. He fled Ecuador after being brutally attacked, his home burned, and being left for dead by members of the Los Lobos gang. He applied for asylum upon arriving in the United States and has no criminal history. Federal immigration authorities detained him in September 2025 and held him at the Moshannon Valley Processing Center in Pennsylvania. An immigration judge ordered him to voluntarily depart; failure to comply could trigger formal removal and long-term reentry bars. U.S. Rep. Sarah McBride demanded his immediate release, calling the deportation order morally bankrupt and asserting that he poses no threat and is precisely whom the asylum system should protect.
