"According to YouGov, 2,255 US citizens were asked earlier this month to rank the 11 most recent first ladies on a scale from "outstanding" to "poor". Thirty-six percent said Mrs Trump was "poor" and another 10pc rated her "below average". About 18pc of people in the survey ranked her as "outstanding", with another 12pc saying she was "above average". That left her with a net approval rating of -16."
"The majority of the 11 most recent first ladies received higher net ratings than their husbands. Mrs Clinton was the only first lady to have a significantly lower net rating than her husband, who had a net rating of -3. Several presidents and first ladies had similar ratings, including Jackie O and John F Kennedy (+56 v +61), Nancy and Ronald Reagan (+25 v +22), Michelle and Barack Obama (+21 v +15), and Melania and Donald Trump (-16 v -20)."

Melania Trump received 36% "poor" and 10% "below average", 18% "outstanding" and 12% "above average", producing a net approval of -16. Hillary Clinton received 33% "poor" and 11% "below average", yielding a net -17. The top-rated first ladies were Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis (+56), Rosalynn Carter (+32) and Nancy Reagan (+25). Michelle Obama posted a +21 net rating with 33% "outstanding" and roughly 22% "poor". Most first ladies outscored their husbands; Donald Trump was the lowest-rated president overall.
