House Republicans kept the House in session to pass a resolution denouncing and deploring the horrors of socialism and invoked Jefferson and Madison. The House approved the resolution 285-98. One Democratic congressman criticized the resolution as utterly ridiculous and noted the irony of condemning socialism while the president praised mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani as rational and negotiable. Dozens of Democrats, including Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, voted to condemn socialism; the protesting congressman voted against the resolution. Mamdani declined to engage with the resolution, saying he focuses on the work at hand and identifying himself as a democratic socialist.
