Rand Paul Takes to Fox News Sunday to Condemn Trump Over Shutdown Gridlock, Extrajudicial Killings' On Suspected Drug Boats
"But a briefing is not enough to overcome the Constitution. The Constitution says that when you go to war, Congress has to vote on it. And during a war, then, there's a lower rules for engagement, and people do sometimes get killed without due process. But the drug war orthe crime war has typically been something we do through law enforcement. And so far they have alleged that these people are drug dealers."
"I think if you put Senator Kaine and I in a room, I think we could figure something out, Paul said. And that's part of the solution. I suggest that President Trump come forward and name three Republicans and three Democrats in the Senate to an official commission to figure this out over a one month period and come back with a solution."
Sen. Rand Paul condemned U.S. airstrikes against alleged drug-transporting vessels for lacking briefings, names, and presented evidence, calling the strikes extrajudicial and akin to practices in China and Iran. He invoked the Constitution, stating Congress must vote to authorize acts of war and distinguishing wartime battlefield rules from normal law-enforcement actions against alleged drug dealers. Paul emphasized that no evidence about suspects or whether they were armed had been presented. On the shutdown and health-care debate, Paul proposed President Trump appoint three Republicans and three Democrats in the Senate to an official commission to produce a one-month solution.
