Pulte says FHFA is terminating equitable housing committee
"On Tuesday, Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) Director Bill Pulte took to X to announce the agency's termination of the advisory committee on affordable, equitable and sustainable housing, also known as ACAESH. Effective Immediately, U.S. Federal Housing is TERMINATING Biden's racial equality committee' which was dishonestly labeled Affordable, Equitable, and Sustainable Housing.' We are, instead, focused on the safety of the market and restoring the American Dream! the post read."
"ACAESH was formed in September 2022 during the Biden administration, according to a charter found on FHFA's website. The charter outlined that the committee would advise the FHFA on how Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the Federal Home Loan Banks can better support affordable, fair and sustainable housing, including identifying needs, barriers and potential policy changes. In June 2024, FHFA named the inaugural members of the committee after it went through an application solicitation process in September 2023."
FHFA Director Bill Pulte terminated the advisory committee on affordable, equitable and sustainable housing (ACAESH) via a post on X, characterizing the committee as 'Biden's racial equality committee' and emphasizing market safety and the American Dream. ACAESH was established in September 2022 with a charter to advise FHFA on how Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the Federal Home Loan Banks can better support affordable, fair and sustainable housing, including identifying needs, barriers and policy changes. The inaugural members were named in June 2024 after an application process begun in September 2023, and members reported to then-Director Sandra Thompson for two-year terms. The termination follows FHFA's withdrawal from the NGFS, indicating a shift away from climate and equity-focused initiatives toward market safety priorities.
