Kevin Roberts and associated Project 2025 figures advocate outlawing gender-affirming surgeries for adults, claiming links between such procedures, mental health problems, and acts of violence. Those claims run contrary to available data: reviews of mass attacks show the vast majority of perpetrators are cisgender men, and trans people account for a vanishingly small share of mass-shooting suspects. Major medical organizations endorse gender-affirming care as evidence-based treatment for transgender people. Efforts to restrict care for youth have already spread, and leaders are now pushing similar bans targeting adults despite contradictory evidence.
