Professor in Epstein Files Makes Extremely Awkward Announcement at Start of Class
""Some of you will have seen my statement of regret expressing my shame with respect to what I did in communication with Mr. Epstein, and that I've said that I'm going to step back from public activities, but for a time," Summers intoned, gravely. "But I think it's very important to fulfill my teaching obligations. And so, with your permission," he continues, not waiting for anyone's objections, "I'm gonna - we're gonna go forward and, uh, talk about the material, uh, in the class.""
""deeply ashamed""
""Think for now I'm"
Larry Summers acknowledged communications with Jeffrey Epstein and expressed that he feels deeply ashamed. Summers announced an intention to step back from public activities for a time while fulfilling teaching obligations. Summers made an awkward in-class statement asking to continue the course despite the revelations. Released Epstein emails showed closer ties between Summers and Epstein than previously disclosed. Summers previously served as U.S. Treasury secretary, as an economic adviser to the president, and as Harvard president. Summers resigned the Harvard presidency in 2006 after criticism for sexist remarks. A 2018 email shows Summers asking Epstein for romantic advice about a mentee.
