Oakland mayor, sheriff say ICE, CBP operations canceled for now in East Bay
"Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee said in a press release Friday that she has been told by Alameda County Sheriff Yesenia Sanchez that ICE and Border Patrol operations are cancelled for the greater Bay Area which includes Oakland at this time."
"Sgt. Roberto Morales, a spokesperson for the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, confirmed that Sanchez has been told the federal government's surge operation won't happen at this time in Oakland, Berkeley and the rest of the county."
"This is a developing story. Check back for updates."
ICE and Border Patrol operations are cancelled for the greater Bay Area, including Oakland and Berkeley, at this time. The planned federal surge operation will not proceed in Oakland, Berkeley, and the rest of Alameda County for now. The cancellation pauses the anticipated increase in federal immigration enforcement actions across the county. The status is temporary and subject to change based on future federal or local decisions. Residents in affected cities should monitor for further notices or updates as the situation develops.
