The Winter Olympics open in Milan while American athletes respond to the January shooting deaths of two U.S. citizens by federal agents in Minneapolis. Multiple Team USA members from Minnesota publicly condemned aggressive immigration enforcement and expressed sorrow and solidarity with affected communities. Jessie Diggins pledged to race for Americans who value love, acceptance, compassion, honesty and respect, rejecting hate, violence and discrimination. Kelly Pannek paused a post-game press conference to call the enforcement unnecessary and horrifying, and she emphasized pride in those who show up to stand and fight for their beliefs.
