"On Monday, the state of Minnesota, joined by the "Twin Cities" of Minneapolis and St. Paul, filed a lawsuit against Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials, including Secretary Kristi Noem. The suit alleges that "Operation Metro Surge" - the name DHS uses to describe its activities in those cities - is illegal, and in violation of the state's and cities' rights."
"The plaintiffs added that, rather than being born out of necessity, the deployment of DHS agents to the cities seems to be based on politics, stating: Operation Metro Surge is, in essence, a federal invasion of the Twin Cities...driven by nothing more than the Trump Administration's desire to punish political opponents and score partisan points - at the direct expense of Plaintiffs' residents."
Two U.S. states and their largest metropolitan areas filed lawsuits seeking to block Trump administration immigration operations, alleging harm to residents and violations of state sovereignty under the 10th Amendment. Minnesota, joined by Minneapolis and St. Paul, sued Department of Homeland Security officials including Secretary Kristi Noem, alleging Operation Metro Surge is illegal. The complaint says DHS claims the deployment targets fraud but that the armed operation bears no connection to that objective and reflects retaliatory, politically driven actions. Plaintiffs call the deployment a federal invasion aimed at punishing political opponents. An analysis noted an ICE agent was in no real danger before fatally shooting Renee Good.
