Minnesota GOP gubernatorial candidate drops out, blaming Trump's immigration policy
""unmitigated disaster.""
""I cannot support the national Republicans' stated retribution on the citizens of our state,""
""Nor can I count myself a member of a party that would do so.""
""United States citizens are carrying papers to prove their citizenship,""
Chris Madel, a lawyer for the immigration officer who shot and killed Renee Good, withdrew from the Minnesota governor race and broke with many Republicans. Madel called President Donald Trump's immigration operation in the state an "unmitigated disaster" and said the Twin Cities enforcement effort has gone too far while acknowledging support for deporting "the worst of the worst." Madel said he could not support national Republicans' retribution on state citizens and stated that United States citizens, particularly those of color, live in fear and carry papers to prove their citizenship. He reported hearing from local Asian and Hispanic law enforcement officers pulled over by ICE.
