Man charged after arrest connected to January 6 Capitol pipe bombs
"The arrest marks the first time investigators have identified a suspect in an act that had long vexed law enforcement, spawned a multitude of conspiracy theories and remained an enduring mystery in the shadow of the dark chapter of American history that is the violent Capitol siege. The suspect in custody has been identified as Brian Cole Jr, according to Attorney General Pam Bondi."
""Let me be clear: There was no new tip, there was no new witness. Just good diligent police work and prosecutorial work," Ms Bondi said. Two of the people said he lived in Woodbridge, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, DC. No other details were immediately available, including the charges Mr Cole might face. Calls to relatives of Mr Cole listed in public records were not immediately returned on Thursday."
The FBI had sought to identify a person who placed pipe bombs near Democratic and Republican national committee offices on the evening of January 5, 2021. The bombs were rendered safe and no one was hurt, though the FBI said the devices could have been lethal. Investigators struggled to determine the suspect’s gender, motive, and any clear connection to the January 6 Capitol riot as they pursued public leads. Authorities arrested a suspect identified as Brian Cole Jr, charged him with use of an explosive device, and noted the identification resulted from diligent police and prosecutorial work. The investigation remains ongoing.
