U.S. District Judge Rita Lin granted a preliminary injunction preventing the Trump administration from immediately cutting federal funding to the University of California or issuing fines over claims of antisemitism and other discrimination. Labor unions and groups representing UC faculty, students and employees brought the challenge. The ruling found substantial evidence of a coordinated effort by agency officials and senior administration figures to initiate civil rights investigations as a pretext for cutting funding and pressuring universities to change ideological positions. The administration has investigated many universities over alleged racial preferences and froze funds and fined UCLA over campus antisemitism allegations.
